REMEMBER ONLY THAT WHICH IS GOOD AND FORGET ALL THAT IS

Al and Gene grew up together they were best of friends; you might say that they were inseparable. One day they were playing sandlot baseball and their team was winning 5 to 4. It was the bottom of the 9th inning; the other team was at bat, 2 outs. The count on the batter was 3 balls, 2 strikes. And yes the bases were loaded!! The pitch, the swing, a solid hit to middle/left field!!! Al has it from left field; no wait Gene has it from center field!!!! Gene calls for it, Al hears him and stops just in time to see Gene miss the catch, 2 runs score and they lose the game!!!!! Al gets mad at Gene, words are exchanged and Gene pushs Al down in the sandy soil. Al sets stunned momentarily then does something unexpected, he writes the following in the sand. TODAY MY FRIEND GENE PUSHED ME TO THE GROUND. Gene just shakes his head and walks away. Later that same summer Gene and Al were swimming at the rock quarry. They were having a great time jumping of the high rock walls into the nice cool water. Gene comes up and Al doesn`t ! Gene goes back down and sees Al, his foot caught between 2 rocks, struggling to free himself but can’t!! Gene is able to free Al`s foot and helps him to the surface. Gene has to help Al to shore, then home, Al almost drowned that day!!! The next day Gene finds Al at the quarry with hammer and chisel in hand carving these words into the rock. MY FRIEND GENE SAVED MY LIFE HERE. Now Gene just had to ask,” Al what is with all this writing? First you write in the sand and now in the rock!” Al`s reply,”Gene you’re my best friend! When you pushed me down before I wrote it in the sand were the winds of time would erase it. Yesterday you saved my life; I never want that to be forgotten!!
